The Ontario Wheat Producers’ Marketing Board represents over 16,000 wheat producers in the province of Ontario and one of the most diverse regions of wheat production and utilization in North America. Currently we are seeking an agricultural communications professional for a one year contract to work on the communications of the Ontario Wheat Board and the Corn Producer magazine. The Communications Coordinator will report directly to the General Manager of the Ontario Wheat Board and the Communications Manager of the Ontario Corn Producers’ Association. He / she will primarily be responsible for the delivery of our key print publications, our web presence, stakeholder relations and event coordination. Key Responsibilities: • Ensuring the continuation of key stakeholder publications including ONWheat magazine, the Conveyor newsletter, trade publication articles and the Ontario Corn Producer magazine • Support the communications requirements of the Board and staff of the Ontario Wheat Board including sales materials, presentations, fact sheets, articles and news releases • Coordination of events both in celebration of our 50th Anniversary at the Ontario Wheat Board and our ongoing efforts to add value to the Ontario wheat industry • Continuous management of website content to build website traffic and meet the needs of our stakeholders Our ideal candidate: • Understands the Ontario agricultural industry • Has an undergraduate degree with additional training in public relations or communications • Has a thorough knowledge of current communications techniques • Is experienced with website development and content management • Has worked extensively with a publishing software like QuarkXPress • Shows superior verbal and written communications, as well as outstanding presentation skills • Exudes an enthusiasm for agriculture and communications • Is highly organized, has effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize many projects If you are a results-oriented agricultural communications professional who is excited about the opportunity to work on a great team to provide value to Ontario’s wheat producers, please forward your resume to Erin Fletcher at erin.fletcher@ontariowheatboard.com by May 31, 2008.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science, or a Master’s degree and a minimum of five years experience. You will be eligible for membership in the Alberta Institute of Agrology. The position will manage and conduct soil surveys and related information for comprehensive and screening level environmental impact assessments. Your input will be required to prepare regulatory applications for approvals from conservation and reclamation planning and permitting to decommissioning. You will have a sound knowledge of the Canadian System of Soil Classification, Land Capability Assessments and the Agriculture Regions of Alberta Database. A sound working knowledge of federal and provincial (Alberta and B.C.) environmental legislation is required. The candidate should be familiar with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Act, the Alberta Environmental Enhancement and Protection Act, and the National Energy Board Act. Consulting experience, directly related to the oil and gas or energy sectors, would be an asset. The professional will be self-motivated and also possess the following attributes: • Excellent organizational skills, • Superior communication skills, • Ability to work in a team environment, • Experience working with federal, provincial and municipal regulatory agencies, • Strong project management skills, • Working knowing GIS, mapping and database management, and • Willingness to travel The successful candidate will be a key member of the Soils and Terrain Sciences Group that deliver the soil and landscape components for regulatory applications.
