Biography: Steve Peddie
Growing up on a farm in Saskatchewan gave Steve Peddie firsthand experience of the agricultural lifestyle, so it comes as no big surprise that the majority of his professional career has been in the industry.
After graduating from high school in 1980, Steve bought grain for the United Grain Growers until 1986, when he left to pursue his Business Administration (Management major) diploma at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST). Upon graduating in 1989, he worked at the Hub City Curling Club as the special events manager until 1991. And in answer to the next logical question, yes, Steve does curl.
Later that year, Steve went back to school at the University of Saskatchewan, where he began taking psychology before eventually switching to the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Human Resources Management. Shortly after graduating with his degree, Steve relocated to Calgary, where he completed his Arts degree with a major in Psychology by taking evening classes at the University of Calgary, in conjunction with the University of Saskatchewan. At the same time he was working in the human resources department of a $4 billion oil and gas company.
In 1997, Steve discovered that AgCall was looking for someone to head their recruitment department, a position that brought him full circle, back to his Ag background and his human resources education.
“I like being in the loop and connected to what is going on, and building a good network,” says Steve. “I like helping people find a good job and I enjoy helping a client find a great employee to fill a need. It’s very rewarding.”
Steve says years his years in human resources have given him the strong ability to locate and assess people. In fact, if he could was a super-hero and could have any power, he would want the ability to read minds.
“I could assess people much better that way,” Steve laughs.
In his spare time, Steven is an avid scuba diving enthusiast, a farmer who still goes home every fall to help with harvest, a jogger and a dog-lover.
