Biography: John MacArthur
John was born and raised on the West Coast of North America and his early summers were spent working on family farms in the Fraser Valley, where he learned the value of hard work and completing the job.
Like many young adults on coastal British Columbia, John was drawn to the call of the sea and enlisted with the Canadian Coast Guard. As an Officer, he graduated from Marine College, earning his Master, Home Trade designation. Subsequently he went into Human Resources for Fisheries and Oceans, participating in recruitment of marine biologists, scientists, technicians, and licensed marine officers. His maritime foundation continues to drive his strong work ethic, and ability to tackle challenges in his Human Resources profession.
John currently holds the designation of Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). While actively involved in recruiting and other aspects of Human Resources, John held an appointment as a member and panel chair of the BC Benefits Appeal Board for a five year period.
Prior to 2008 John was successful in his role of HR Manager for Marine Harvest Canada on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, working with over 800 employees involved in all aspects of providing Atlantic salmon to the market- from fish farms, to processing to shipping the finished products throughout North America and Japan.
In 2008, John relocated to Alberta and took a position as the Human Resources Manager with Western Feedlots Ltd. He has been active in the recruitment of agricultural management, IT, and operational personnel, whose duties range from cattle and crop management to animal health and science, and commodities.
John and his spouse Marilyn reside in Nanton, Alberta spending many evenings online with their extended family worldwide. He is the proud father of three sons, and one daughter-in-law, and three adorable grandchildren. He enjoys volunteering and is a Rotarian. In his spare time John is learning the ancient language of Gaelic.
