The BC Grain Producers Association is a non-profit organization representing grain and oilseed producers from all regions of BC.  We are looking for a Director of Research to manage the research team in conducting field research trials for local and inter-provincial projects. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Dawson Creek, BC offering a competitive salary with excellent health benefits.


Key Responsibilities:

·      Successfully managing a staff of 3-4 members
·      Overseeing small plot variety trials on two research farms, including:

o   Seed preparation, cleaning, weighing

o   Site preparation (plot plans and layouts)

o   Plot seeding, spraying, in-season assessments and harvest activities

o   Data collection and entry

o   Statistical analysis of collected data

·      Writing of funding proposals and reports to funders
·      Budget development for funding proposals
·      Supervise and train employees (permanent and seasonal)


Candidate Qualifications:

Agricultural degree in agronomy, crop sciences, agricultural systems with hands-on experience in agricultural research 

·      Experience with agricultural field research required
·      Experience with agricultural/farming equipment (tractor/planter/combine) including on-farm usage and basic mechanical skills
·      Strong and effective communication skills
·      Demonstrate leadership skills and take responsibility to teach and train staff to foster a team atmosphere
·      Physical requirements include the ability to work outdoors under a variety of weather conditions, standing and walking for long periods of time and able to lift 50lbs
·      Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve in a fast past environment
·      Excellent personal interaction skills that encourage and enhance a good working environment
·      Experience with Microsoft Office and ARM statistical program  
·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·      Attention to detail is essential
·      Valid driver’s license required as well as the ability to obtain heavy trailer endorsement
·      Pesticide license preferred
·      Job requires occasional travel and extended hours with weekend work during seasonal peak workloads
