Peak of the Market is a grower-owned "not for profit" vegetable supplier that operates in Manitoba under the Farm Products Marketing Act. Peak of the Market has grown quality produce in Manitoba for 75 years and supplies over 120 different varieties of Manitoba grown vegetables. As a result of steady growth, a Quality Control Manager is now required to manage inventory, develop standardized weekly reporting metrics and conduct ongoing training of distribution centre staff to ensure product quality.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control would be an asset
- Minimum 3 -5 years Distribution Centre or Inventory Management experience
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Highly analytical, detail oriented & well organized
- Must be physically fit to perform tasks and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be bondable
- Must have a reliable vehicle and valid MB Driver’s License
Reporting directly to the Vice President Operations and with a dotted line reporting to the Director, Research & Quality Enhancement, the Quality Control Manager coaches a team of 15 unionized staff including shipper/receivers, packaging machine operators, graders, and supervisors. Peak of the Market values employees as an important asset and works hard to keep employees for the long term by offering opportunities for development and advancement in a professional, positive environment. The average staff member has been with the organization for 10 years, with several having up to 30 years of service.
This role spends about 90% of the time in the distribution centre, most of which is spent hands-on in the plant and in coolers and part of the time working on process development and building the business. Consequently, you must be physically able to be standing, walking, and lifting for the bulk of your work day.
Approximately 10% of your time will be spent traveling in rural Manitoba working with the Director, Research & Quality Enhancement and the family farms integrating consistent quality control standards between growers and the distribution centre. This is where your strong communication and relationship building skills are applied, as you are the key liaison between the growers and the distribution centre.
