To offer the best milk every day, Canadian dairy farmers have excellent standards and practices. Dairy Farmers of Canada and members initiated the development of proAction® to show how farmers responsibly produce milk. With proAction®, farmers offer proof to customers that they work to ensure milk quality and safety, and to continually improve animal health and welfare as well as environmental stewardship.


The proAction® initiative operates with six key modules. These modules are currently at different stages of development and implementation across Canada.


The proAction® Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Canadian proAction® initiative to dairy producers in Alberta. The proAction® Coordinator with support from other staff will develop an implementation plan and ensure the effective orientation, training and ongoing support of the proAction® program in Alberta.  The sensitivity of issues being dealt with demands this individual display a high degree of professionalism and the ability to deal with all levels of government and industry in a timely and diplomatic manner.


Diploma in Agriculture (Dairy) is a minimum; BSc in Agriculture preferred, with a strong emphasis on dairy production.


·         Minimum of 3 years of experience with an industry organization or service provider.

·         Experience delivering training, education and extension to the agriculture community.

·         Experience communicating directly with producers through multiple approaches including writing, one-on-one and group sessions.

·         Experience in collection, analysis and presentation of information from various sources.

·         Experience in dealing with service providers.

·         Experience conducting interviews and consultations is required to obtain and interpret information, much of it confidential, from members and other stakeholders.

·         Experience in preparing and adhering to budgets

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


·         Demonstrated awareness of the agriculture sector and strong knowledge of the dairy industry including best management practices and milk production protocols.

·         Knowledge of principles and techniques of adult training education and extension program development, implementation and evaluation is required to recommend new and revised programs and to review existing programs.

·         Working knowledge of basic accounting and budget preparation will be an asset


·         Patience, tact and diplomacy and sensitivity to organization concerns, including a commitment to confidentiality

·         Ability to implement and interpret policy

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent the organization at various meetings and with personnel from other organizations

·         Working in a team environment

·         Ability to display patience, tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to client and organizational concerns.


·         Excellent ability to communicate effectively directly with producers through multiple approaches including writing, one/one and group sessions. Superior presentation skills to deliver proAction® in a professional manner at producer and industry meetings.

·         Skilled in coordination and organization, planning and problem solving.

·           Willingness to work with minimal supervision.


Work Environment

This position is Edmonton and will work out of our office.The majority of the work done for this position is done in an office environment.  Due to workshops and provincial coordination this position is often prone to travel and irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends


Prepare annual budget for proAction® activities and deliver within it.


There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

This is a fulltime position which will start on August 1, 2017.

The salary range for this position is $69,600 - $90,500 per year.
